Art Collections

At Tate, Kami oversaw the acquisition of contemporary art for the national collection, securing works by Rachel Whiteread, Jordan Wolfson, Franz West, Jean-Luc Moulène, Joachim Koester, Marlene Dumas, and Olafur Eliasson. She navigated a highly structured and complex acquisition process in which every proposal — whether offered as a purchase, gift, bequest, or allocated through government schemes — was rigorously assessed against Tate’s Collection Strategy. Working closely with curators, the Directors of Collections, and the Collection Committee, Kami ensured acquisitions were of the highest quality, aligned with strategic priorities, and compliant with institutional governance frameworks. This involved liaising with artists, their estates, collectors, and galleries, and optimising funding streams, including private donations and grants, to secure works at optimal value for the institution.

Kami has advised some of the world’s most discerning collectors on building and managing museum-quality art collections, with a particular focus on eclectic holdings (including Old Masters, Modern, and Contemporary art). Her expertise spans every dimension of collecting — from curation and acquisitions to governance and legacy planning — combining an in-depth understanding of the art market, art history, and institutional collecting.
